Your New Dentures Need Daily Care and Cleaning Considerations

Posted .

Dr. Kathleen Tantuco effectively restored the function and appearance of one or more sets of your teeth by fitting you for your new dentures. While they are made out of artificial materials that aren’t susceptible to the effects of tooth decay, your dentures will still need daily care and cleaning.

Many denture wearers use denture adhesive to provide a little extra hold while also helping to block out food particles. If a few food particles come between your partial and your gums, you should thoroughly rinse them and any residual adhesive away. You can then reapply more denture adhesive to the clean surface.

Before you go to bed at night, you should take your dentures out and thoroughly rinse them to remove any plaque buildup and residual adhesive. Then you should brush all of the surfaces of the dentures with a soft bristled toothbrush and denture polish. If you have denture implants you should also brush them and any locking hardware to remove plaque buildup. Soak the dentures overnight in water and keep them in a safe place.

Some denture wearers also like clean their tongue by brushing it or using a tongue scraper to remove bacteria and reduce bad breath.
